Surfwind.net is an exciting new community concept that enables like-minded watersports enthusiasts to share real-time weather information via text message.

Many watersports rely on the weather conditions and one of the most frustrating aspects of taking part in an exciting watersport such as windsurfing or sailing is mother nature's unpredictability. There are countless websites that publish weather forecasts but there's not substitute for the man or woman on the beach. Surfwind.net was created with this in mind.

By texting a short message to the dedicated Surfwind number, members can keep others informed of the current weather conditions anywhere in the UK. SMS messages are typically published within two minutes of being sent and Surfwind members can choose to receive an email each time a new message is posted for their local region.

We have been responsible for the design and development of this system and we have utilised a variety of technologies to make this happen. The website includes a PHP and MySQL-driven membership system and an SMS processing application written in Microsoft Visual Basic. We also manage the hosting and email requirements of the business.
